Measure the Stairs and Their Working Space

A standard Twin mattress is approximately 38 by 75 inches, but the assembled bed can be much longer because the staircase sits at one end. Measure the usable wall, ceiling height, doors, windows, vents and nearby furniture. Leave a clear approach to the bottom step and enough room to open every stair drawer.

Stair placement varies by model. Wynn and Elsie use right-side stairs as shown, while Weatherford can place the stairs on either side. Other products may use a fixed side or a configuration-specific assembly. Check the product drawing before deciding which wall the bed will occupy. Also measure doorways, hall turns and stairs along the delivery route.

Separate Included Stair Storage From Underbed Options

Storage built into the steps does not mean every underbed component is included. Many configurable models can be ordered as a bed only or with drawers, cubbies or a storage trundle priced separately. Wynn and Elsie are different: their published component lists include the Twin trundle.

A storage trundle may hold a mattress for another sleeper or use dividers as a large drawer, depending on the model. Either use requires open floor area beside the lower bed. Confirm the trundle mattress size and thickness, and do not assume an underbed drawer and trundle can occupy the same space.

Check Mattress Limits and Capacity Per Bunk

Twin size does not establish sleeper suitability. Compare the published weight rating for the upper and lower bunks separately. Weatherford lists a 160-pound rating per bunk and a 7-inch maximum mattress on both levels. Washburn lists 800 pounds per bunk, with an 11-inch top and 8-inch bottom mattress maximum. These examples show why one rule cannot be applied to every bed.

Follow the selected product’s mattress guidance so the top mattress does not reduce effective guardrail height. Review the support system and included slats before purchasing a foundation. Browse mattresses only after confirming the required size and thickness.

Do all bunk-bed stairs contain drawers?

Storage stairs are common in this collection, but included pieces remain model-specific. Verify the component list for the selected configuration.

Can the stairs go on either side?

Sometimes. Stair orientation can be fixed, reversible or configuration-specific. Confirm it on the product page before planning the room.

Is an underbed trundle included?
