Best Loft Beds with desk and storage
If you’re in need of a versatile and multi-functional sleeping space, look no further than a loft bed. Our loft beds with desk and storage options are the perfect choice to maximize the potential of your home or rental property. No longer just for dormitories, the loft bed has become an increasingly popular option due to its combination of sleep, study, and storage capabilities.
The loft bed itself is a simple concept, an elevated platform with sleeping space on top and study and storage space below. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends a minimum distance of 30 inches from the top of the mattress to the ceiling. Since ceiling heights vary by room, loft beds come in low, mid and high height options. Loft beds are designed with a ladder or stairs to provide access to the sleeping space.
The space underneath the loft is full of possibilities that can be customized to your needs. A desk beneath the bed makes study and work conveniently accessible. Storage shelves and drawers can be part of the desk itself and also a part of a chest or dresser. Many loft beds can be adapted to fit the layout of your room, with left and right configuration options.
FAQs about Loft Beds
1. What is a loft bed?
A loft bed is a two level configuration that consists of a sleeping space on top and an open space underneath. The open area can be filled with a desk and/or dresser. A ladder or stairs is used to access the bed area. The loft bed is an excellent space saving option because it allows the study and storage furniture to be under the bed, freeing up floor space in the room.
2. What size mattress thickness will I need?
This will depend on the height of your ceiling, but the Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends a minimum distance of 30 inches from the top of the mattress to the ceiling. You would also need to consider how much guard or safety rail should be available. A comfortable low-profile mattress would work well and we carry several we would recommend from our 40 years plus experience.
3. What materials are loft beds made from?
Loft beds are available in a variety of materials. The most common selections are wood and metal. Wood is sturdier, less noisy and easier to customize. Metal is lighter, fairly maintenance free and offers more color options.
4. What is the weight capacity of a loft bed?
This will depend on the materials and size of the loft bed. The following examples show the difference in weight capacity based on materials and size:
- Shipping Container Gray Loft Bed with Desk and Storage: Metal, 225 lb. weight capacity
- Kivik Sand Twin Loft Bed with Desk: Wood, 400 lb. weight capacity
- Anya White Full Size Loft Bed with Desk: Wood, 400 lb. weight capacity
- Theo Chestnut Queen Loft Bed with Desk: Wood, 2200 lb. weight capacity
5. Do I need to anchor a loft bed to the wall?
A sturdy loft bed made from high-quality materials should not need to be anchored to the wall.
6. What are my storage options for a loft bed?
A loft bed offers storage in the form of shelving and/or drawers underneath the sleeping space. The desk area usually supports the shelves and a dresser with drawers can be added on the side. For additional space potential, some loft beds have stairs that open to reveal more storage underneath.
