What You Need to Think About When Buying Bunk Beds for Your Vacation Home, Airbnb, and VRBO

Bunk beds are a good option for vacation homes and rentals

  1. They are space saving in that they use vertical space to free up floor space.
  2. They are fun and who doesn’t want fun in their vacation?
  3. You can host more guests. Sleeping capacity is a big deal for vacation homes, Airbnb, and VRBO rentals.
  4. Good deals! They can be more cost-effective than buying 2 separate beds.
  5. They are so versatile and come in many configurations to meet your needs like built in storage or additional sleeping spaces with trundles. Many trundles can double as drawers or fit a mattress using removable dividers. Also, the opened up floor space allows for fun and homey accessories.

Things To Consider When Buying Bunk Beds

  1. Room dimensions, not just the length and the width of the room, but also the ceiling height. You need to consider how much space there is for a person in the top sleeping space to sit up. In addition, if you are getting a loft, this will help determine how high of a loft you can do. For example, low lofts, medium lofts, and ultra high lofts. The higher the loft, the more space you have underneath for another bed or other furniture such as desk and drawers. But the taller that loft, the higher ceiling you need to accommodate it. Most people also like to leave a bit of room to move about in the space so don’t just pack it wall to wall.
  2. Furniture dimensions and sizes. For example, if you are buying for an adult who is not growing anymore, you can be confident that their bed size needs are likely to stay the same. If you are purchasing for a growing child who is tall, then you probably want a bed that they can grow into for a few years. They may need an XL or extra long mattress and bed. Many of our bunk beds can be separated into 2 individual beds at a later date and that gives you even more flexibility. Depending on whom is typically staying at your property will determine the mix you need.
  3. A handy little list of standard mattress sizes:
    • Twin – 38” x 75” or 96.5 x 188.0 cm
    • Twin XL – 38” x 80” or 96.5 x 203.5 cm
    • Full (also known as a double) – 54” x 75” or 134.5 x 190.5 cm
    • Queen – 60” x 80” or 152 x 203.5 cm
    • King – 76” x 80” or 193 x 203.5 cm
    • California King – 72” x 84” or 183 x 213.5 cm
    • This list is not all the available sizes, but standard and are typically easier to find along with a bed that uses those mattress sizes.

  4. Style – Many people have a certain style they are aiming for when decorating a vacation space. That’s A Lot To Think About

Indeed it is, but that is why you can rely on our 40 plus years of experience. We have outfitted model homes, commercial theaters, vacation rentals, and just about anywhere a human would like to rest or hang out. Some people come to us with a very detailed idea in mind and others a blank slate, we can help with either!

One common question we get is if we can hold shipments of furniture. We have delayed shipments due to:

    1. Pandemics!
    2. Delayed construction
    3. Canceled, delayed flights
    4. Other reasons

That short list is not all encompassing, but just says we are happy to work with you. We know that communication is super important and things can change. Please note that once a shipment goes out, it cannot be rerouted or stored long term without additional costs. This is also a very rare occurrence, but something to consider as you make your travel plans and get updates from your builder.
