Twin beds offer a compact sleeping space for one person in a child's room, guest room, or smaller bedroom. A standard U.S. twin mattress is approximately 38 inches wide by 75 inches long; twin XL adds about 5 inches of length. Our collection includes platform, panel, sleigh, bookcase, daybed, metal, themed, and Murphy designs, with storage drawers and trundles available on select models.
What Twin Bed Styles Are Available?
This collection covers several distinct frame types, each built around a different room need and storage approach.
- Platform and panel beds: Many of these frames include built-in slats that hold your mattress directly, so no box spring is needed. Their low, simple profile keeps the bed visually quiet and lets other furniture in the room stand out.
- Bookcase beds: Cubbies and open shelving are built into the headboard, keeping books, a lamp, and personal items within reach without the need for a separate nightstand. This style makes a practical twin bed with storage for kids who want their things close at hand.
- Daybeds: A three-sided frame gives your room seating during the day and a bed at night, with no folding or converting required. This layout suits guest rooms, playrooms, and rentals where the bed shares space with other activities. Browse our twin daybeds for the full selection.
- Sleigh beds: Curved headboards and footboards give the frame a more traditional, finished appearance. Select models add beadboard detailing to the panels.
- Metal and themed beds: Industrial shipping-container styles, race-car frames, and other character designs add a playful focal point to a child's room.
- Twin beds with storage: A twin bed with storage underneath provides drawers in the base for folded clothing, toys, spare linens, and seasonal items, reducing the need for a separate dresser. Browse more drawer layouts in our twin storage beds collection.
- Twin beds with trundle: A second frame on casters sits under the bed and rolls out when a friend stays over, and adding a mattress to it creates a second sleeping surface. On select models, removable dividers let the trundle double as a deep drawer between sleepovers. See more pull-out designs in our twin trundle beds collection.
- Murphy and cabinet beds: These designs fold into a cabinet when not in use, making them useful for guest rooms and multipurpose spaces. Check each listing for the included mattress and the bed's open and closed dimensions.
Twin XL options are available on select frames for teens and taller sleepers who need additional mattress length. A standard U.S. twin XL mattress is approximately 38 inches wide by 80 inches long. Check the bed's overall dimensions and leave room to open any drawers or pull out a trundle. For a wider sleeping surface, our full-size beds offer the next step up. For rooms that need to make use of vertical space, twin bunk beds provide stacked sleeping surfaces, while twin loft beds raise a bed to create room underneath for a desk, storage, or play.
Materials vary by model and include solid wood, wood veneers, MDF, and metal.
Twin beds work well anywhere one person sleeps per surface, and floor space is tight, including shared kids' rooms with two frames side by side. Weight capacities vary by model, size, and sleeping surface. Check the specifications for your selected bed and any trundle, or ask our team if a capacity is not listed.
If your bed does not include a mattress, browse our mattresses for a compatible size and thickness. Call our design team at (800) 976-0102 for help choosing a twin bed for your room, sleeper, and storage needs.
FAQs
Is a twin bed the same as a single bed?
In U.S. retail, the two terms refer to the same mattress size. Outside the United States, "single" is the more common term, and the size it describes is close to a standard twin, though exact measurements vary by country.
Do two twin beds equal a king?
Not exactly. Two standard twin mattresses together are approximately 76 inches wide by 75 inches long—about 5 inches shorter than a standard king. Two twin XL mattresses together match a standard king's approximate 76-by-80-inch dimensions.
Does a twin bed need a box spring?
Many frames in this collection include a slat system and support the mattress directly. Select models do require a box spring, and each product listing specifies which support system the frame uses.
